πΏ️ A Healing Moment in Gyeongju – A Korean Squirrel Enjoying Chestnuts
Gyeongju is well known for its ancient tombs, temples, and rich history that stretches back a thousand years. But during my recent trip, I encountered something a little different — something unexpectedly heartwarming.
While taking a quiet afternoon walk, I came across a native Korean squirrel sitting peacefully on a rock, holding a chestnut in its tiny paws and munching away.
What touched me most was that it didn’t run away.
It just calmly kept eating, completely focused on its meal.
It felt like nature was offering me a small gift — a brief moment of rest, peace, and unexpected joy.

π§Ύ About Korean Native Squirrels
The squirrel I saw is a subspecies of the Eurasian red squirrel, commonly found in Korean mountains and parks.
They eat nuts, seeds, and chestnuts — and even store food for winter, just like in storybooks.
Though small, they play an important role in the forest ecosystem by helping distribute seeds.
